When he is back facing you, praise him and give him the treat. Let him sniff the treat you are holding but don't let him have it. Lower the treat to the floor while your dog follows it down, too. After your Poodle has learned to lay down, you can practice him with stay. It is fine to let your dog stay for fifteen or twenty mins or even to go to sleep, for it is beneficial when he must unwind once in a while. When he moves even a centimeter or 2 without standing up, praise him and reward him with the treat. Poodles are calm dogs who need a calm environment to flourish in.

Too much stress can make a highly-strung and sad dog with tricky behavior.
